Diskit Gompa , Ladakh

  • One of the most visited sites in Ladakh tourist places, Diskit Monastery is known to be the oldest and largest monastery in Ladakh. Believed to be built in the 14th century, Diskit Monastery is a sight to behold for most of the tourists who visit Ladakh. Offering a dazzling view of the Nubra Valley, Diskit monastery is best known for the 100-foot statue of Lord Buddha.

    There is also a school run with the help of an NGO for Tibetan children and tourists can also look forward to going through various shrines which are there in Diskit Monastery. When you are visiting Diskit Monastery, one of the attractions that you should not miss are the gompa of Hunder and the river to be mind-blown by the amazing scenery. 

    Highlights: The most striking feature of Diskit Monastery is the majestic statue of Lord Buddha that is 100-foot-high and was inaugurated by the holy Dalai Lama. 

    Best time to visit: The months of July to September are the best to visit this place as winters are not advisable due to blocking of roads.
