Comprising the two gompas called Drukpa and Gulugpa, Mulbekh Monastery is renowned for the majestic statue of Maitreya Buddha. Located at a high altitude, Mulbekh Monastery is most famous for this wonderful 9-meter tall idol that is supposed to be as old as the 8th century.
The monastery offers some enchanting views of the valley and attracts many tourists. The statue overlooks the beautiful panorama on the National Highway 1D that connects the two places of Leh and Kargil. Other highlights of this place are the presence of many prized lyrics, ancient inscriptions, and frescoes.
Highlights: Mulbekh Monastery is best known for the nine-meter statue of Maitreya Buddha that covers the base to top of this place. This rock sculpture is famed to be carved by Ladakhi missionaries and is boasts of having a great amalgamation of Saivite symbols and early Buddhist art.
