Rizong Monastery , Ladakh

  • Belonging to the Gelukpa order, Rizong Monastery was formed in 1831 by the great Lama Tsultim Nima. Known among the most popular monasteries in Ladakh, Rizong Monastery is home to about 40 monks who have chosen their life goal to trace the path to God. 

    Following a very disciplined lifestyle abiding the Buddhist principles, Rizong Monastery is a wonderful place to get a sneak peek into the life of Buddhist monks. Moreover, tourists here can learn more about their culture by going through a vast collection of scriptures, texts and biographies of Buddhist Lamas.

    Rizong Monastery is known among the great seats of learning and there is also a belief that this was the place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in one of the caves before the monastery was built.
