Shey Monastery , Ladakh

  • One of the most mesmerising places to visit in Ladakh, Shey Monastery was founded in the 16th century. Once used as a summer retreat for the royal family of Ladakh, Shey Monastery is often called Shey Palace. Mostly famous for the second largest statue of Buddha, Shey Monastery is revered as an important Buddhist heritage site.

    Highlights: The most striking feature of this monastery is the larger than life statue of Shakyamuni Lord Buddha. Also, it is known for many unique and vibrant festivals called Shey Doo Lhoo and Shey Suey Rupla. 

    Best time to visit: The months from February to August are considered to be the best for visiting Shey Monastery.
